Hoop Update

I will not be at Hoop Jam on Thursday night but I gave my radio and extra hoops to a few of the girls to bring.  They will be at Algonac El from 6-8.

I will also not be teaching at Lifecare Martial Arts this Saturday morning.

3 Beat Weave

I will not be at Hoop Jam Thursday night.  I will be attending Kinetic Fire.  Its a two day workshop to learn how to spin fire :)  Yay!!!   Hoop Jam is still on.  My lovely friends have offered to bring my hoops and radio.

I tried out my new external flash at a local Easter gathering at Snoopy's a few weeks back.  Still have some kinks to work out but so far I am loving it. I posted a slide show of the pictures I took. 

HOOP:  

The workshop "Discovering Your Hoop Dance" that Bonnie MacDougall of www.HavenHoopDance.com taught at Lifecare Martial Arts last Sunday was absolutely fantastic! We had so many registered hoopers we had to have two classes.  Bonnie gave us several lessons to practice but with only an hour for each class her time was limited.  The first class wasn't even over and I already had people asking when I plan on having her back.  LOL.  Another workshop is in the works and I hope to make it a 2 or 3 hour workshop so that we can dive deeper into the wonderful world of Hoop Path.

My Saturday morning Cardio Hoop Class is going well.  Love starting my weekend with a fun workout with friends.  We have space for a few more hoopers if you would like to join us.  I teach at Lifecare Martial Arts in Algonac from 9-10a.m each saturday morning.  Its $8 drop in or less with a punch card.  I have extra hoops.  Beginners are welcome. 

I haven't had too much time to post here.  I have been trying to keep up with my hoop sales.  Every time I think I am caught up I get 3 or 4 more orders.  Makes me so happy to think of all those sparkly beautiful hoops I am putting out into the world!  Adult hoops are $30.00.  Kid hoops are $25.00

The Algonac El gymnasium is not as full as it was when we started Hoop Jam back in January but we are still having as much fun as when we started. We will be in the gym every Thursday night from 6-8p.m. through the end of May.  Then we will be moving to Clay Township park.   Its free. I bring extra hoops and music.

Updates

School is closed this week due to spring break.  Hoop Jam will be at the Clay Twp park from 6-8 Thursday if it is not raining.

My Cardio Hoop Class starts this saturday at LifeCare Martial Arts from 9-10a.m.  $8.00 drop in fee or less if you buy a punch card.  This is a beginner hoop class.  No hooping skills necessary to get a great work out and have a ton of fun.  This class will be each saturday morning so if you can't attend this week I hope to see you soon :)

I shot a local Easter egg celebration today.  Felt great to have my camera back in my hand.  Looking forward to booking more spring/summer portrait sessions.  You can reach me at 586-524-6311 for pricing and availability.

Hoop Jam This Thursday 3/15/12

Hoop Jam will not start until 7:30 this week.  The school is using the gym for an afterschool function.

Hoop Jam will go back to its regular time of 6-8p.m. Thursday 3/22/12.

Discovering Your Hoop Dance

I was going to post some information regarding a workshop I am helping organize.  It is with Bonnie from Haven Hoop Dance.  Unfortunately or fortunately depending on how you look at it...it was filled in less than 24 hours. 

We will see how this first one goes.  Hopefully we will be offering more workshops down the road :)

Adult hoops will now be $30.00
Childrens hoops will be $25.00

Just a little update

Last night was our fifth hoop jam.  We have consistently had 40-50 people each week.  I still can't get use to seeing all of those smiling faces spinning hoops in one space.  It makes my heart want to burst!  A few of my girlfriends have been along with me for most of my hoop journey.  To see how far they have come is awesome!  Then I have my new hoop friends young and old who are really getting into it. 

I have made and given away or sold over 150 hoops since November.  I have attended a few work shops with plans to attend more in the future.  Tomorrow I go for my Hoopnotica FIT certification.  I am scared to death and excited at the same time. 

Next on the list is fire hooping ;)

P.S.  No hoop jam next week.  The school is closed for winter break.  See you on the 23rd!

Hooping has changed my life

I was talking with a reporter from the Port Huron Times Herald on Monday.  She wanted to learn more about hooping.  During the interview I said that hooping has changed my life.  I second guessed myself after I said it.  I thought the reporter would think I was silly.  How can a round piece of plastic change your life?  After reading a blog post on Hooping.org today I know I am not the only one.

I have a spring in my step that I have never felt before.  I find myself walking thru parking lots with a grin on my face for no reason.  I "play" more with my son.  It's as if my hoop has given me permission to act like a kid and not take life so seriously all the time.

Hoop Workshop/Detroit Fire Guild

I ventured downtown Monday night to attend a hoop workshop with Bonnie from HavenHoopDance.  It was absolutely amazing!  I really enjoyed the exercises that she had us do to get more in tune with our hoops.  Watching her hoop was pretty awesome too.  She has the most serene and graceful hoop style of anyone I have ever watched.  Check out her website: http://havenhoopdance.com/

Bonnie and I also discussed her coming to Algonac to teach a workshop in the future. 

After the workshop I hung out for the open practice that the Detroit Fire Guild holds every other Monday.  It was the first time I had seen a fire hooper in person.  I can not WAIT to start fire hooping!

Reminder: No Hoop Jam Thursday due to the elementary school being closed.  We will be back at it on the 26th.

Special Guest(s) this Thursday 1-12-12

We will have a special guest at our hoop jam this Thursday.  Jeri Packer from the Voice Newspaper will be there to hoop with us and write a story about hooping.

 

I have not yet confirmed our second special guest but I am working on it.  Ms Olive Oyl is a certified hoop instructor.  She is also a fire hooper.  If she can light a hoop on fire and hoop with that I am sure she can do some pretty amazing things with a regular hoop!

Muscle Memory

Couple more things...

What do you think of calling ourselves the Algonac HoopRats?  We are getting our start at Algonac Elementary....home of the Muskrats :)

Also, music is a big part of hooping for me.  If you have a favorite song or two or three please let me know and I will add them to our playlists.

Pure Bliss!

Last night was the first Thursday Hoop Jam.  It was a complete success!  The Algonac Elementary School gym was filled with smiling hooping faces.  I am already counting down till next Thursday!

I am not an instructor and their is no format to this class.  If you can't make it at 6 - show up when you can.  Have to leave early - no problem.  Bring a friend.  I have extra hoops.  If you want to buy one so you can practice at home I will bring some that are for sale too!

Haven't hooped in years and think you can't do it?  YOU CAN!  They are adult sized heavy hoops.
